Just an hour-and-a-half from Santiago, you can escape to the tranquility of Chilean wine country. Savor outstanding wines, great food, comfortable accommodations, and beautiful scenery in the San Antonio Valley. An experience not to be missed!
Day 1 – The San Antonio Valley
Situated only 2.5 miles (4 km) from the Pacific Ocean, the San Antonio Valley is Chile’s most coastal wine region. Fresh, cool winds from the sea blow through vineyards spread over the rolling hills. Nurturing the grapes requires an especially keen knowledge in San Antonio in order to achieve the delicate balance between sunlight, wind, and temperature. The hard work of winemakers has yielded excellent results: crisp whites and spicy reds that are increasingly capturing attention around the world.
Your guide will meet you around 9:00am at your Santiago accommodations to head to Casa Marín Winery. Founded in 2000 by Chile’s first female vineyard owner, Maria Luz Marín, Casa Marín has been described as one of the “most daring and innovative” vineyards in the country. Its outstanding wines have received many awards including: Best Sauvignon Blanc in the World (2010), Winery of the Year (2010) by industry association Wines of Chile, and most recently was named among the Top 100 Wineries in the World (2012) by Wine & Spirits magazine. Two of its top wines – Miramar Vineyard Syrah 2010 and Cipreses Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2011 – were named the “best in Chile” by the country’s most prestigious wine publication Descorchados. Following a tour and tasting of their premium wines, you will sit down for a delicious lunch.
Following your meal, you’ll drive the short distance to Matetic Winery. A state-of-the-art winemaking facility, Matetic is designed to complement its beautiful natural surroundings. The winery incorporates organic agricultural practices and an architecture which optimizes vinification. Grapes are handpicked and carefully examined to ensure only those of highest quality are used in the winemaking process. The winery has been called a “great ambassador” for Chilean wine on the world stage. After checking in to their historic casona, you’ll head to the bodega for a tour and tasting of their distinctive wines.
Enjoy a leisurely evening by the pool, strolling among the vines, or relaxing in the lovely gardens.
