Aconcagua Valley - Our favorite valley!
The Aconcagua Valley, located about an hour’s drive north of Santiago, is known for Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and one of the best locations for Chile's emblematic grape Carmenere. On a clear day you can see the stunning peak of Aconcagua which gives the valley its name. At nearly 23,000 feet it is the highest peak in the western hemisphere. Wineries which we may visit include Errazuriz, Von Siebenthal or San Esteban.
Aside from one of the best day tours from Santiago, check out the options to stay in the guest house at Von Siebenthal Winery.
Casablanca Valley December 2006 Chile White Wine Article
(with mention of Santiago Adventures)
West of Santiago, on the road to Valparaíso, is the Casablanca Valley. A cool coastal climate makes this wine-growing region ideal for white varietals, and accordingly the Casablanca Valley is known for its premium Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines. Wine production began in this region in the 1980s, and as a result the wine facilities here have a very modern feel. Wineries we visit include Casa del Bosque, Catrala, Kingston, Veramonte, Vina Organico Emiliana. For lunch, there are several options including wine pairing at House of Morandé or lunch at Casas del Bosque. We typically combine Casablanca Valley with a a visit to the San Antonio Valley or other coastal destinations such as Valparaiso or Quintay a small fishing village on the coast where you can try Chile's delicious seafoods. For the more active we even have a bike and wine tours in Casablanca Valley.
Cachapoal Valley
Cachapoal Valley is one hour south of Santiago and lies between the Andes and the Coastal Range. Producing primarily red varietals, the valley is quickly earning an international reputation for premium Cabernets and Merlots. Winery visits include Altair, Anakena, Chateau Los Boldos, Gracia and Vik Millahue. We have several great options for lunch including a boutique hotel with beautiful gardens, a very typical local restaurant to experience "comida tipica", a historical hacienda and several of the wineries. We also have an exclusive relation with Vik Millahue to stay overnight at the guest lodge of this exciting new world-class winery.
Colchagua Valley
For good reason the Colchagua Valley was rated the best Wine Region of the World by Wine Enthusiast in 2005. The valley produces excellent Malbec, Syrah, Cabernet and Carmenere wines and is home to two of Chile's most famous wineries - Casa Lapostolle and Montes. In addition to the thirty five wineries in the valley there are many options to combine wine tourism with gastronomy, trekking, horseback riding and a world class museum. Approximately two hours from Santiago makes Colchagua within reach for a day tour but your best bet is to stay a night or two as you are sure to find plenty to do. We have a two day Colchagua valley tour already designed or let us provide you with the perfect custom tour to Colchagua for one or more days. For the more active we even have a bike and wine tour in Colchagua Valley.
Maipo Valley
The Maipo Valley is the oldest wine-producing valley in Chile, and it lies just south of Santiago, extending from the foot of the Andes to the middle of the Central Valley. This valley produces bold Cabernet Sauvignons that have garnered international recognition. Chile’s largest and more traditional wineries can be found here, but the region is also home to up-and-coming boutique wineries, many of which are owned by Chileans who have partnered with French, U.S. and Italian winemakers. Wineries we visit include: Almaviva, Antiyal, Aquitania, Concha y Toro, Cousino Macul, Haras de Pirque, Paseos del Vino, Perez Cruz, Quebrada de Macul Santa Alicia, El Principal, Santa Rita and William Fevre.
We have an exclusive relation with Chile's smallest winery Corcoran Gallery which makes for an excellent day or overnight visit to the Maipo Valley.
For the more adventuresome, we love Vina La Montaña. A combination of trekking in native forests, descending and an exhilariating three thousand foot zip-line. All combined with great wine of course! (and only an hour from Santiago).
Maule Valley
Chile's largest wine valley has been known historically for producing more quantity than quality. However, recent developments are helping it to shed this image with wineries like J. Bouchon leading the way. Our exclusive relation with J. Bouchon makes a great way to spend the night in the Maule Valley.
San Antonio Valley December 2006 Chile White Wine Article
(with mention of Santiago Adventures)
The San Antonio Valley is the nearest valley to the Pacific coast and its cool climate is excellent for producing white wines, pinot noirs and cool climate syrahs. Both Matetic and Casa Marin wineries are beautiful wineries to visit and produce top rated wines. We typically combine a visit here to the Casablanca Valley or other coastal destinations such as Valparaiso or Quintay a small fishing village on the coast where you can try Chile's delicious seafoods..
